Rain Dance Press LLC is a Colorado publisher of plain-language books on medicine and technology, and of a small number of iPhone applications built to the same standard: useful, unfussy, and collecting nothing about the people who use them.
Robert Henson
Robert Henson is a chemical engineer, cardiologist, and translational scientist whose work centers on a single mission: making complicated subjects understandable to the people who need them.
He studied chemical engineering at the University of Notre Dame, where he developed a passion for systems thinking — the discipline of understanding how complex parts interact to produce emergent behavior. That foundation shaped everything that followed.
He earned his MD at the University of Missouri and completed his cardiology fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Medical Center at Washington University in St. Louis. As a practicing cardiologist (MD, FACC), he has spent years turning dense cardiology into plain language — first through the Cardiology 123! blog and book, and now through a growing catalog of accessible health references. Earlier in his career he worked with cardiac MRI and clinical imaging, writing software tools for image tagging and analysis — an early example of using computing to solve practical clinical problems.
His interest in intelligent systems began early: as a medical student in 1987 he studied machine learning as part of a neurosciences course, back when the field was theoretical and largely inaccessible to practitioners. He followed the technology from a distance throughout his career in medicine, and returned to active engagement when modern tools brought real, practical AI within reach.
He also develops iOS applications, bringing the same plain-language approach to mobile tools. He lives in Colorado with his family.
